This intriguingly constructed five-song, split EP features two songs each from Portland’s Andi Camp and We’re From Japan as well as a collaborative stab at one of Bruce Springsteen’s biggest hits. Though Camp’s hands must be full running her own label (Grafton Records), you wouldn’t know it hearing her remarkable abilities as a pianist on “Lion’s Den” and “Hailstorm.” Accompanied by the powerful drumming of Joey Prude, Camp’s cascading fingering is bolstered by her sultry voice and impassioned singing. Spacey instrumentalists We’re From Japan ease into their crisscrossing clean-guitar assault on “To Temple Grandin” before blasting off with Camp’s piano in tow on the lovely “All At Once.” Camp joins We’re From Japan again to close out the EP with an alternately faithful and droning take on the Boss’s “I’m On Fire” that doesn’t touch the original but is still an admirable shot. Complete with Camp’s stunningly crafted album artwork, You Are The Vehicle is a wonderful sampling of two obscure and seemingly sonically disparate Oregon-based bands.
